Vinson is a leading distributor of industrial process control, pressure protection, control systems, and services in the
southwest region of the US including North, East, West Texas, Oklahoma, Western Arkansas, and New Mexico.
 
The Applications Engineer serves as a pre-sales and post order resource to internal and external customers for technical and commercial information and solutions for the Systems and Services group, which represents products from the Emerson Automation Solutions business unit including DeltaV, Reliability systems, and vertically integrated solutions.  The effective Applications Engineer will have an attention to detail in both customer requirements and objectives, as well as our technical offerings & capabilities, to prescribe the best commercial solution set which will be communicated through proposal development.
 
The scope of solutions will be primarily those of Emerson Automation Solutions Process Systems and Solutions Division (DeltaV Control Systems & Services and Reliability Solutions), supplemented with other Vinson products and control system services, or those of third parties as required in meeting or exceeding the customers objectives.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
 
  • Represent Vinson Process Controls and its principals to customers by acting as a subject matter expert on Process Systems Solutions and Reliability Solutions, supporting complex technical inquiries, and guiding customers through solution architecture and system integration.
  • Collaborate daily directly with customers to define project scope, provide solutions with the selection of appropriate automation technologies, prepare detailed proposals, and manage the full lifecycle of customer orders.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Project Engineering, Lifecycle services, Accounting, and Operations to ensure seamless execution of customer projects from proposal through invoicing.
  • Support Vinson Account Managers and Customer Success Managers as well as other Vinson partners by providing strategic insights into competitive positioning, technical applications, and market trends to drive business growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Deliver high-level technical assistance for the selection, configuration, commissioning, and maintenance of DeltaV control systems, Emerson reliability platforms, and other integrated automation solutions.
  • Participate in and/or lead periodic training and development sessions focused on enhancing product knowledge, improving internal processes, and elevating customer experience through responsive, informed, and solution-oriented support.
  • Ensure the consistent implementation of effective inside sales practices and customer service guidelines for optimum performance and success of the organization.
  • Develop turnkey proposals for greenfield and brownfield projects, including electrical and instrumentation (E&I) scope of work, in collaboration with the project engineering team.  This process may involve field research, FEED studies, site walkdowns, and coordination with subcontractors and Emerson teams to gather and define project requirements.
  • Leverage Salesforce as a central platform to track and manage sales opportunities and proposals, maintain accurate customer account, and contact records, and facilitate effective communication and collaboration with the Account Management team.

Education, Skills and/or Experience:
  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical, Petroleum, or Industrial Distribution) from an accredited university is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant technical and/or sales experience with engineered products in the industrial process control or oil and gas industry or equivalent engineering or operations experience in these sectors. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and listening skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across the inside sales team, sales administration, account management, customers, and suppliers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude and fostering team collaboration.
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt quickly and resolve issues independently.
  • Strong team orientation, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional groups and contribute to shared goals.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, with the ability to quickly learn and apply new software tools and support team members in their adoption and use.
 
Physical and Mental:
  • Shall be able to lift and carry weight of at least twenty-five pounds (Primarily demo equipment and customer equipment)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to operate office machinery (telephone, copier, fax, PC)
  • Ability to comprehend complex information, perform math calculations, logical reasoning, and manage ambiguous situations.
  • Overnight travel may be occasionally required for training purposes, customer events, and organizational meetings.
  • Must be able to walk through plant sites, including climbing ladders and maintaining safety awareness.
